The video for the first single from the upcoming album has a record length of 10 minutes. And the sound of analog synths, timbres and electronic rhythms demonstrate Depeche Mode’s immersion in the mid-’80s, during the albums Black Celebration and Music For The Masses.
Yes, by 2023 there were only two left in Depeche Mode: lead singer/frontman David Gahan and keyboardist/vocalist/guitarist Martin Gore. But at concerts and in the studio they are helped by excellent session musicians, and in addition to electronic instruments, “live” guitars and drums are already used.
So it will be on the next tour, which begins in Spain in March, and is timed to coincide with the release of the fifteenth studio album Momento Mori (translated from Latin – “Remember death”). It is dedicated to the memory of keyboardist Andy Fletcher, with whom David and Martin created the band, and have been in it since day one in 1978…
It’s a shame that Russia, like other countries of the former USSR, is not yet on the Depeche Mode agenda.
Direct speech
Martin Gore, Depeche Mode keyboardist, vocalist and guitarist:
– We’re sure Fletch would like this record too. We started this project at the beginning of the pandemic and its themes are directly inspired by that time. And after the death of Fletch (this is how the “dipesha” called the colleague friend of his-approx. Ed.) We decided to continue. Because we are sure that he would also like this record. Confidence in this gave our work an additional and higher meaning.
