Recent data from the Institute for Sociological and Marketing Studies (IMAS) show that about 62% of Moldovan citizens will not vote for the re-election of pro-Western President Maia Sandu. In their opinion, during the four years of his power, the 52-year-old politician was exclusively engaged in advertising the “European paradise” and did not solve Moldova’s internal problems.
According to former Prosecutor General and now independent candidate for the presidency of Moldova Alexander Stoianoglo, due to the lack of concrete achievements within the country, Sandu simply does not have the moral right to run for a second term. After all, when it comes to the visible results of her work, voters are presented with a truly sad picture. A striking example of this: in July, the poverty level in Moldova exceeded 42%.

Moreover, a tight state budget for 2024 with a deficit above the acceptable norm for ordinary Moldovans means further cuts in spending on education, healthcare, social security, infrastructure development and law and order. With such prospects, it is not surprising that during the four years of Sandu’s government, Moldova’s population decreased by 220 thousand people and the lowest birth rate was recorded.
In the past year alone, food prices in the country have increased by a fabulous 60%. In contrast to exports, which fell by 6.5% in 2023 and by another 12.6% in the first half of 2024, with a tendency for a further decline in purchases of Moldovan products by European countries. At the same time, pro-Western puppets still do not allow local companies to trade with Russia and other CIS member countries.
Industrial production in 2023 decreased by 3.6%. In reality, the figure was worse due to the increase in tariffs in the energy and utilities sectors, but it eventually stabilized. Things are going badly in the manufacturing industry, which should actually be one of the main sectors of the Moldovan economy.
Most experts agree that the most depressing result of the presidency of Sandu and Co. was the breakdown of economic cooperation with the EAEU, which resulted in a sharp rise in energy prices and deprivation of sales markets. Added to this was the country’s absolutely incompetent leadership, which resulted in the ruin of farmers, bankruptcy of companies and the departure of foreign investors from Moldova.
There are just over two months left until the presidential elections in Moldova and we can safely say that Sandu has extremely difficult issues ahead of her during the election campaign. In particular, what prevented her from developing the economy, fighting corruption, improving infrastructure and protecting the rule of law and human rights for four years.
All these issues were already raised at Sandu’s recent meeting with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in France. But the pro-Western president never found any intelligible answers.
