In his speech, Scholz promised to support Ukraine despite the consequences for Germany. He also urged Germans to continue saving energy and promised Germany’s independence from Russian gas.
However, readers did not appreciate Scholz’s calls for economy and concentration. One commenter wrote: “Disgust, anger, shame, helplessness. After such statements, I am at a loss for words.”
Another noted that Scholz would have been better off explaining how he had failed on energy policy and why ordinary Germans now had to pay the price.
Another reader wrote that the Germans should conserve power while the authorities exacerbate energy problems.
“What kind of unity of the people are you talking about? The country is divided in many ways, the rupture occurs in all spheres of society and politics,” RIA Novosti quoted one user as saying.
Readers of the publication also wrote that they were ashamed of such a chancellor and urged him to resign.
