Stephen John Greif was born on August 26, 1944 in Sawbridgeworth, in a house that was once a gift from King Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn. At school, he became seriously involved in swimming and track and field, and competed in competitions. He studied at the University of Westminster, worked as a radio repairman and in a real estate agency, before selling himself as an actor.
