The document entitled “Responses of the Social Democrats to a changing world”, which is available to the DPA, will be discussed in the party presidium on Monday 23 January.
The document, available to the agency, says that “the time has come to reconsider our own role in the world and take greater responsibility for the rules-based international order, which is the foundation of prosperity, freedom and peace”. It is observed that in Europe Germany plays a central role in this process.
According to the SPD, for too long Berlin has relied solely on a shared future with Moscow. “Until fundamental changes take place in Russia, ensuring the security of Europe must include protection against the actions of the Russian Federation,” the document states.
At the same time, relations with the PRC, as emphasized in the text, need to be reviewed. For example, in economic terms, it is necessary to become more independent from China.
According to the DPA, the document will be discussed in the party presidium on Monday, January 23.
