Despite the difficult economic conditions that have developed in recent years under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the national policies of the Union States that are being implemented, as well as the joint measures taken by the countries and the Eurasian Economic Commission, contributed to the positive development of the industry.
In the last three years, the physical volume index of the entire EAEU agro-industrial complex amounted to 104.7%, mutual trade increased by 34.8%, and exports by 41.7%. The foreign trade balance of agricultural products and food in 2021 reached positive values (+$1,800 million). In 2022, the level of provision of agricultural products and food in the Union amounted to 92.6%. Due to their own production, Member States fully satisfy the domestic demand for cereals, pork, poultry, eggs and vegetable oils.
These changes have posed qualitatively new tasks for the agro-industrial sector, including import substitution of material and technical resources, the formation of optimal and efficient infrastructure and logistics solutions, the introduction of innovations and digitization in the agro-industrial complex, and the sustainable development of the Agriculture. This is due to the fact that significant volumes of means of production, including high-tech goods, are supplied to the Union internal market. In 2021, imports of material and technical resources to the EAEU amounted to 6.1 billion dollars.
All of this stimulates the countries of the Union to increase the competitiveness of the industry through the development of cooperation, the introduction of new efficient technological solutions, the creation of new routes, commercial and logistics networks and wholesale distribution centers. In addition, the common global agenda places before the EAEU countries the task of sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex, including economic, social and environmental issues. There is an obvious need to unite the efforts of member states to address these problems.
