American businessman Elon Musk has officially launched the company xAI, which will work with artificial intelligence technologies. The businessman has not yet shared details about the projects in which the firm will participate. However, the xAI website states that their goal will be to “understand the true nature of the universe.” Reuters writes about it.
Musk’s team promises to share details of their plans on July 14 during an audio stream. It will take place on the social network Twitter, previously acquired by Musk. In addition to Musk himself, specialists from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Twitter and Tesla will work at xAI. They include former DeepMind employee Igor Babushkin and AI Security Center CEO Dan Hendrix.
In March 2023, Hendrix published an open letter urging people not to rush into the development of artificial intelligence technologies and to stop “large-scale AI experiments.” Musk signed this letter. The current xAI team is involved in creating DeepMind’s AlphaCode neural network, as well as OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. At the moment, xAI is also recruiting new employees.
