Setback for Elon Musk. The owner of X, Tesla and Space X has just been surpassed in the ranking of the richest men in the world by the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. According to the list that Bloomberg updates daily, the fortune of the South African-born tycoon has fallen to $198 billion. At the end of 2023, Musk had a net worth of $232 billion.
This is due not only to the fall in Tesla’s shares but also to the decision of a court in Delaware (United States), where the company has its headquarters, to annul a compensation plan that would have allowed it to earn more than 55,000 million dollars, legal action promoted by a shareholder.
Bezos, who has not been at the head of the distribution giant since July 2021, has benefited from the good performance of the company’s shares, of which he is the main shareholder, and has 200,000 million euros of assets.
The French magnate Bernard Arnault, president and CEO of the luxury brand group LVMH, remains in third position with a net worth of 197 billion euros.
Next are the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, with an estimated fortune of $179 billion, and the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, the fifth richest man in the world with a wealth of $150 billion.
The first Spaniard on the list is the founder of Inditex, Amancio Ortega, who occupies 16th place with a fortune approaching 89 billion dollars. The L’Oreal heiress, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers (15th place), is the richest woman on the planet with $97.1 billion, in a list dominated by American citizens – with the exception of Arnault, the top ten come from that country.
