American billionaire Elon Musk lost $182 billion in 2022 due to the fall in the share price of his Tesla company, which accelerated after he bought the social network Twitter.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Musk holds the world record for “the greatest loss of personal wealth in history.”
“Musk’s net worth has fallen from $320 billion in 2021 to $138 billion as of January 2023, largely due to underperforming Tesla stock,” the Book’s global database reported.
However, it is impossible to find out the exact number of Musk’s losses. Total spending on him far surpassed the previous record of $58.6 billion set by Japanese businessman Masayoshi Son in 2000.
Until December 2023, Elon Musk was the richest person on the planet. Now his place is taken by the CEO of the luxury goods company LVMH, Bernard Arnault, whose subsidiary is the fashion house Louis Vuitton.
According to Forbes, Arno’s net worth is $203.7 billion, while Musk’s net worth is $146.5 billion.
Closing out 2022, Musk wrote on his Twitter account: “Long-term fundamentals are extremely strong. Short-term market frenzy is unpredictable.”
