Of all the changes that Elon Musk has made to Twitter, the most contentious is the recent news that he’ll be increasing the number of characters per tweet from 280 to 4000.
Musk’s occupation of Twitter and his changes to the company and characteristics of the social network is so controversial because we are discussing a tool that is one of the largest means for communicating, which includes corporations, politicians, artists, and millions of others. Every change, no matter how small it may seem, is important in the way users handle communication. In the sense of characters, the platform has had the benefit of writing short messages in order to make communications more concise. Nowadays, this is about to change.
Hours after Elon Musk’s original tweet, Twitter user Allan Obare tweeted the businessman a direct question about the 4000-character limit. To which Elon replied “yes”.
Tesla made an announcement this week that is sure to change the world of social media. There’s also talk of ending the infamous Twits chains, which somehow isn’t a big deal given that users can still write as much as they want on Twitter.
Now you can write up to 4,000 characters on Twitter. This will be beneficial to some, although of course there are those who continue to oppose the changes that Tesla’s owner continues to propose.
How have you found the character change on Twitter?
