Serbian director Emir Kusturica plans to make three films based on the works of Nikolai Gogol. He said so in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
“It takes three films to leave a stronger impression than one image can. “The story of how Ivan Ivanovich quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich”, “Carriage”, “Sorochinsky Fair” are fantastic sketches about the consciousness and character of people who lived in Little Russia. I still doubt Dead Souls,” he said.
Kusturica called Gogol’s books powerful examples of realistic literature. He promised to name the writer’s book soon, on the basis of which shooting will begin. Kusturica is sure that it will be an excellent film, “because it is impossible to make a bad film based on Gogol.”
Earlier, Emir Kusturica said that he did not plan to head the Theater of the Russian Army. According to the director, there was confusion with the translation of the word director. We talk about it in more detail here.
