Escrivá affirms that Social Security complies with pension terms

Date: March 28, 2024 Time: 18:08:26

José Luis Escrivá, Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, stated this Monday that there is no case in which a worker has retired without receiving his pension the following month. The minister has also defended that, despite the lack of personnel, all pensions have been recognized in a period of less than 20 days. “There is no institution in Spain that can say that,” he stressed to the press at a seminar on the Minimum Vital Income.

Asked about the lack of personnel in the Social Security offices denounced by the unions – and reported by Europa Press – Escrivá has insisted that there is “continuity of income” and that the pensions paid by Social Security are fulfilled in “less than 20 days” thanks to the “effort” of its officials. Faced with this “continuity of income” that Social Security seeks, the minister has indicated that non-contributory and non-contributory disability pensions that correspond to recognizing the autonomous communities take an average of 150 days to resolve.

But the Social Security pensions, the minister has insisted, are resolved with continuity of income. “That is what is substantial and that is done by Social Security officials” which, as Escrivá has acknowledged, have been reduced by 20% since 2012 because “vacancies have not been filled in recent years.” Although this situation “is being corrected”, the minister acknowledges the “effort” being made by the current Social Security staff to maintain continuity.

union mobilization

CCOO, UGT, CSIF and other trade union and professional organizations have been denouncing for some time the lack of personnel in the Social Security offices. They have been mobilizing for several months to ask the Government to take action on the matter. Specifically, the unions stress that there are delays in appointments, calls and previous “unattended” appointments, queues at offices, interruptions in the payment of benefits due to delays in recognizing the right and delay in recognizing benefits to citizens (an average of three months, according to his calculations).

After the rallies that they held in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona in the months of November and December, the unions will take their mobilizations to Seville this Friday, with a rally that will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Social Security (INSS) on Sánchez Perrier street .

Likewise, they criticize the closure of citizen service offices, the lack of replacement of personnel and a change in the service model that requires procedures to be carried out electronically, not in person. The union organizations do not understand that the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration intends to meet the needs of personnel by hiring more than 1,600 interim workers.
