Four days after receiving the green light in the extraordinary Council of Ministers, the second part of the pension reform continues to dominate political news and that is that the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, José Luis Escrivá, is optimistic and predicts that there will not be a “counter-reform” of pensions, since “the arguments to oppose are very few and there have been no alternatives to the proposed model.”
This was stated in an interview with the newspaper La Vanguardia, in which he resolved: “I would invite everyone to tell me where the alternatives are and who has proposed them at some point in recent months during the negotiation at the social dialogue”.
He has also refuted those who criticize the reform by arguing that it harms young people: “It is one of those false narratives that are built and that have very little fit in the evidence,” he said.
“Change of attitude” of the CEOE
Escrivá has highlighted how during the pandemic the CEOE employers agreed on measures to “protect the productive fabric” up to six times, while now, since last summer, he perceives a “change of attitude” in this business organization, which rejects the reform of government pensions.
“However, even without the support of employers, it must be stressed that it is a reform that has been built through social dialogue and that the pension reform is very solid and technically very well designed”, he defended in relation to a norm that does support the main trade union forces and that will be endorsed by the congress by eliciting the approval of a parliamentary majority.
Green light for the second part of the reform
The Government learned last Thursday in the Council of Extraordinary Ministers the last part of the pension reform, which introduces a dual model for the calculation of the pension and includes measures to increase the income of the system.
