According to him, three days in New York confirmed the expression that the UN is a mirror of the state of the world. “If you look beyond Ukraine, it becomes clear that global crises are building up, but the global response is blocked or insufficient. There is not enough leadership and unity”, wrote the head of European diplomacy on social networks (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Borrell added that the Russian covert operation in Ukraine and the tensions between China and the United States are “ripping the fabric” of what the West calls a “rules-based international order.”
At the same time, he noted that many states now “see the potential to strengthen the role of the European Union.” These countries perceive the EU as a counterweight to China and trust the organization more than the United States. “They see us as more committed to international rules and the multilateral system and more attentive to the interests of the developing world,” Borrell said.
Recall that last week the UN General Assembly adopted an anti-Russian resolution on “the principles underlying a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine”, which was prepared by Western states. The document was supported by 141 countries, seven opposed, another 32 delegations, including representatives of China, abstained.
