Family deposits exceed one trillion euros and set a new record

Date: March 24, 2023 Time: 10:11:42

Deposits and sight accounts continue to be the preferred asset for saving by Spanish households. In December 2022, they exceeded one trillion euros for the first time, setting a new record, after registering year-on-year growth of 4.6%, according to data updated this Friday by the Bank of Spain. In month-on-month terms, the positive evolution is 1.45%.

Thus, families have closed the year with 1,003.4 million euros, compared to the 989,100 million that the Spaniards had in November 2022, which represents an improvement of 1.45% compared to the previous month and 4, 6% compared to the data for December 2021 summer campaign as a result of summer spending. As of October it has been recovering.

Nor can it be said that last year’s high inflation has affected household savings, which have continued to bet on this product as a measure of protection against the economic uncertainty of the coming months. Moreover, families continue to try to protect their economy against the escalation of energy prices, inflation and the rise in mortgage payments as a result of the rise in the Euribor.

In parallel, companies resident in Spain kept 317,300 million euros in bank deposits at the end of December, a balance that was 1.8% lower than that registered until December 2021, but that is 1.5 more than the amount in November .

The resident sectors as a whole have deposits of 1.68 trillion euros at the end of July, an amount that improves the 1.58 million at the end of 2021
