Brazil has begun the process of identifying the passengers who died in a plane crash on August 9 in Vinhedo, near the Brazilian capital, Sao Paulo.

The Voepass Linhas Aéreas plane took off from the city of Cascavel and crashed last Friday afternoon. There were 61 people on board, including 57 passengers and four crew members. After checking the lists, it was learned that at least eight of those killed in the disaster were doctors. This was reported by the Regional Medical Council of the State of Paraná. The clinics where the doctors worked also confirmed their deaths. They were all on their way to a conference on oncology to be held in Sao Paulo.

– The Medical Council of Paraná regrets the tragic loss of its colleagues who died while on a professional development trip. Our deepest condolences to their families and friends,” said the municipal president, Romualdo José Ribeiro Gama.

Among the deceased doctors, Mariana Belim and Arianna Albuquerque Estevan Risso, were women who worked as residents in the clinical oncology department of the Cascavel hospital.

Pediatrician and allergist Sella Langer, 35, was a highly trained specialist in allergy and immunology, earning her PhD and researching atopic dermatitis in Brazil. Among the dead was recently retired radiologist José Roberto Leonel Ferreira, who taught at the university hospital for 24 years and also ran his own medical center.

The investigation team found two black boxes at the crash site. The data shows that the pilots never informed dispatchers about the emergency on board.

Engineers will also conduct additional research on aircraft engines. The airline reported that the plane underwent maintenance before the flight, during which no technical faults were identified. The results of the investigation will be published within a month.

Ten passengers were late for the fateful flight at once, so now deny your premonitions. And seven more doctors, according to local media, arrived safely to the conference on an earlier flight.
