Feihoo Agrees to Repeal Democratic Memory Law

Date: March 28, 2024 Time: 18:02:29

Alberto Nunez Feijoo, President of the Nationalist Party, promised to repeal the Historical Memory Law and assure that he would work with PSOE members so that “together we can restore memory and justice.”

Last Saturday, in Ermua, Biscay, Feijoo closed a summer school dedicated to the life and work of Miguel Angel Blanco. It featured one of Spain’s former presidents, José María Aznar, and his sister Marie Mar Blanco as well.

In an interview with the chairman of the Popular Party, he explained that “those who aspire to be worthy heirs of Miguel Angel Blanco” stand up against terrorism and do not accept that figures associated with it are able to hold high positions in public institutions. In addition, Jorge Fernández Díaz said that “they’re deeply disgusted that it is they who dictate the terms of democratic memory to a democratic government.” The chairman of the Popular Party warned that “Under these conditions, this is not memory and not democracy. This is an episode unworthy of our democracy.”

He made a commitment to repeal the “ill-named” Democratic Memory Law and assured that he would work with other groups in parliament to push for its reversal. He also made sure to point out that he is looking at ways to work with the NP, within the PSOE.
