The Popular Party steps on the accelerator to secure its position in La Moncloa. After the results of the general elections of this 23-J, the leader of the PP and candidate for the presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that talks will begin “immediately” to obtain support for the investiture. Party sources have assured that since last night Feijóo summoned the socialist candidate to maintain contacts in the “next few days”, an option that distances the PSOE, which refers to the month of September.
Last night, after knowing the results of the bitter victory of the PP, sources close to Feijóo already announced that their candidate is going “to try the investiture by all means.” The ‘popular’ defend their right to try because he is the most voted and “always” the most voted force governed in Spain. For this reason, PP sources have indicated this afternoon that Feijóo “will immediately begin talks with other political parties in search of obtaining the necessary support for his inauguration as Prime Minister, in accordance with the electoral mandate issued” this Sunday.
Will explore a UPN and CC can vote yes to the inauguration
After summoning the PSOE candidate at night to maintain contacts in the coming days, Feijóo “will soon contact VOX to begin to find out first-hand his impressions of the new legislature,” the same sources have added. In addition, the leader of the PP will speak with other parties in the parliamentary arc. “In some cases, even knowing that their support will not be possible and, in others, to explore the availability of those parties (as in the cases of UPN and CC) to vote Yes to their candidacy in the Congress of Deputies,” the same sources have indicated.
However, some difficult weeks are expected after the electoral result and with a scenario of possible deadlock, as there are two blocks that cannot add up to a sufficient majority and, in the case of the socialist candidate, with the key to governance in de Junts.
Sánchez is in no hurry to see Feijóo
For now, Pedro Sánchez has indicated this Monday before the PSOE Executive that he does not contemplate the blockade and the repetition of elections. What’s more, he has shown himself convinced that Spanish democracy “will find the formula for governability.” For now, after the contact that Sánchez and Feijóo had this Sunday after knowing the electoral result, the socialist candidate is in no rush to speak with the leader of the ‘popular’. In fact, PSOE sources dismiss the possibility of an immediate meeting and point out that a possible meeting could be discussed in September.
