Ferrovial, through Webber, a subsidiary of Construction in the United States, will carry out three contracts in Texas for 265 million dollars (about 240 million euros at current exchange rates), the company has reported. These projects reinforce Ferrovial’s presence in North America, a strategic market for the company that concentrates the largest volume of its revenues and where it aspires to list its shares.
Specifically, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has chosen Webber to widen the SL 335 highway located in Amarillo, in the North of the State. With a value of 134 million dollars (about 121 million euros), the project includes the extension of the main lane by 5.6 miles (approximately 9 kilometers), as well as the construction of a secondary access road. The works will begin in June this year and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The Ferrovial subsidiary will also carry out the expansion of SH 99 in the Houston district. The work, which will extend from the West Park Tollway to IH-10 in Katy, reaches 90 million dollars (about 82 million euros). Project tasks include expanding 6.5 miles (about 10.5 kilometers) of the main lane, as well as increasing the capacity of several bridges. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
For the last of the projects, the company will expand the SL 378 highway in the district of San Angelo, a city located in Tom Green County, for a value of 40 million dollars (about 36 million euros). Under this contract, it will rebuild three kilometers of road to accommodate a new continuous center lane that will help alleviate traffic. The project, which will begin in August, is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
35 civil works projects
With these three contracts, Webber is already working on 35 civil works projects in Texas, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Ferrovial subsidiary was recently awarded a €278 million contract to widen a highway in North Carolina and another €118 million to widen SH 36 in Texas. In addition, it participates, together with Ferrovial Construcción, in the I-35 project in San Antonio, worth 1,273 million euros.
