In the article, he noted that words can create a “smokescreen” behind which it is difficult for an outside observer to see the relationship between politicians. “The inconvenient truth is this: Ukraine and its president are feeling lonely,” Steingart was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
He explained that behind the “noble declarations” of Western politicians to support Kiev, there is a vast territory inhabited by pacifists; those who boycott the sanctions and continue to cooperate with Russia, as well as Ukraine’s political opponents. All these people make the course of events “dangerous” for the kyiv authorities.
According to Steingart, the most dangerous group for Ukraine are politicians who openly oppose kyiv’s endless pumping of weapons. It is, for example, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, and the former US president, Donald Trump, who criticize Joe Biden for ignoring the interests of the Americans in favor of Ukraine.
The author concludes that public support for Ukraine is weakening. The columnist added that kyiv’s supporters should finally do what they have not done enough so far: explain their motives.
