Foreign agents at a discount and Serduchka for change: Vaikule desperately saves its festival in Jurmala

Date: July 18, 2024 Time: 13:55:16

Foreign agent Makarevich* will sing at the Vaikule festival in Jurmala. With a discount, they say, for 15 thousand euros (1.4 million rubles). Previously, he sang for the “minimum wage” of 5 million rubles.

In two weeks, the Laima Vaikule music festival called “Rendezvous” will take place in Jurmala. Just two weeks ago, the most popular artists on the event’s billboard were: the organizer herself, Vaikule, Nino Katamadze, Intars Busulis, Janis Stebelis, Alekseev and the LondonBeat group. Despite the fact that the event was advertised everywhere in Latvia (ticket sales were poor), the most expensive ones were distributed free of charge to “honorary” spectators. Now new names have been added to the festival’s billboard.

Vaikule finally agreed on a fee (got a discount) with the artists, with the help of which she wants to attract more viewers. Vaikule’s marketing move is as follows: she invited foreign agents: Andrei Makarevich* (he will fly in from Israel), the Bi-2* group (he will fly in from Israel), Maxim Pokrovsky* (he will be paid for his arrival from the USA). In advertising videos, for example, the rock group “Bi-2”* is presented as a group from Israel. Naturally, foreign agents will sing the “good, old” material in Russian; the rest of the audience does not need it, that is why in advertising they invite people to buy tickets for the concerts. Laima Vaikule smiles at the camera: “I am delighted with this year’s special guests. Andrey Makarevich* is not only a prominent artist, but also a close friend of the festival.” Apparently that is why she agreed to sing at a huge discount, or maybe because the fugitive artist’s earnings were less than he was used to. The event also featured: Max Barskikh, Verka Serduchka, Alekseev, Nastya Kamenskikh.

Two weeks ago, about 30 percent of the tickets for the Dzintari concert hall were sold out for the three days of the festival. After adding new artists, the situation is as follows: a little more than 50 percent, but still some of the most expensive tickets are simply given to VIPs so that there are no empty seats.

Local bloggers told us: “On the day of the concert, when Serduchka is announced, they make a footnote that the line-up of participants may change. So it is not a fact that she will sing. When Laima held her first festival in Jurmala in 2015, tickets were sold out and spectators came because Moscow stars came to sing. Last year and this year there was a pathetic attempt behind the scenes to somehow fill the hall: half of the tickets will be sold, the other half will be given away, so as not to embarrass us with empty seats, as there will be an online broadcast.”
