Moldova should not take sides in what is happening in Ukraine, the politician is sure. He stressed that the vast majority of the citizens of the republic adhere to the same opinion. “Do you know what citizens say most often? If only there was no war! They want peace, neutrality,” Dodon quoted TASS as saying.
He criticized President Maia Sandu and the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, who blamed the country’s severe economic crisis on events in Ukraine. “What they want most is for the conflict to continue, because they blame him for all his actions,” says the former president. He warned that the growing tension in Moldovan society could result in a social uprising.
Dodon also emphasized that the Moldovan authorities should in no case pursue an anti-Russian policy, the country needs strategic relations with Russia. “There is our sales market, there are energy resources. We must not join the sanctions against Russia,” the politician said. He added that the pro-Western course is being followed against the interests of Moldova.
The Moldovan authorities should reconsider their course, which is aimed at breaking ties with Russia. This statement was previously made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who noted that this could have negative and serious consequences for both countries. She recalled that Moscow and Chisinau have experience in building constructive relations without the involvement of a third party in the face of the West.
