“The damage to national security could outweigh any potential benefit from this highly speculative energy technology,” according to excerpts from the collective letter cited by Reuters.
Earlier, the US Department of Energy announced a joint project with two commercial companies to create a molten chloride nuclear reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory. It was assumed that this would create a greener nuclear reactor.
“The increase in the number of such experiments increases the risk that uranium could fall into the hands of militants seeking to create nuclear weapons,” the authors of the collective letter said.
