“Rare books, autographs, photographs, posters, postcards.” This is the simple name of the next auction of the Literary Fund, which will be held on December 22 in St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, among the best lots there are real rarities, the price of which during the bidding process can increase several times. And among them, of course, are collections of poems by Alexander Pushkin, published during the poet’s life by the printing house of the Department of Public Education.
– It is interesting to note that the third part of the “Poems” was subjected to double censorship – both Benckendorff’s and ordinary, although of Pushkin’s unpublished works in the book there were only three poems: “Prisoner”, “What used to be…” and “The Tale of Tsar Saltan,” the Litfond auction house said. – In general, this is a unique case when all four volumes of that edition are brought together in good condition (the set comes from the collection of the Russian-Czech historian Vladimir Tukalevsky). Even during Pushkin’s lifetime, it was very difficult to get them. There were no sales analogues on the open auction market.
The leading offer for the Pushkin lot is already 8.5 million rubles.
Also on sale will be “The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin”, also published during the author’s lifetime (the cost of the book is 2.2 million rubles), the autograph of Afanasy Fet (150 thousand rubles), the history of Catherine II – two volumes of the end of the XIX century (90 thousand rubles) and etc.
