FT: Several European countries have rejected Ukraine’s requests to transfer Patriot air defense systems to it – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 15, 2024 Time: 05:45:11

“kyiv is pushing for Patriot systems to be sent from Poland, Romania and Spain to Ukraine,” an interlocutor familiar with the negotiations told the publication.

Meanwhile, some European states have already declared that they will not satisfy the requests of the kyiv authorities, arguing that they themselves “need to maintain their defense capabilities.”

Thus, Polish President Andrzej Duda stated on Thursday that Warsaw cannot transfer the Patriot systems to Ukraine. However, according to the Financial Times, the Polish leader did not rule out the possibility that he could transfer more Soviet-made missiles to kyiv, but did not specify “which ones and in what quantity.”

Recall that earlier the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, called on the West to supply more air defense systems to Kharkov, as in recent weeks the Russian Armed Forces have carried out regular attacks on targets in the region. In March, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the destruction of several Patriot air defense systems.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock said that stocks of Patriot systems in Germany have been depleted and now Berlin and its allies are looking for an opportunity to buy air defense for kyiv from third countries.
