Garage bookstore opens at Narkomfin House

Date: July 18, 2024 Time: 11:23:24

The Garage Museum, which studies the history of the Narkomfin House and its inhabitants, has opened a bookstore in a monument of early Soviet constructivism. The space features architecture and design books, new publishing programs, Way of Living, 032c, Kinfolk, Office, System, and more.

Based on the initial decisions of House of Narkomfin author Moses Ginzburg, the project team developed a “Object Series No. 1” memorabilia collection. It includes postcards and posters, brass stationery, mugs and key rings with the building’s logo, as well as a beret created together with the Garin headdress workshop.

The third season of the non-regular radio show “Station”, produced by the museum team, is dedicated to the Narkomfin House. Season participants worked with archival documents and memories of the building’s residents, drawing on sound experiments from the Soviet avant-garde. The result was five works, in keeping with the history and architecture of Narkomfin House.

“Aboriginal acid rocker fills the building with the sound of an electric guitar, DJ and experimental physicist Standard Model runs his drawings through digital emulation of the ANS synthesizer, independent project Kosaya Gora dedicates a soundscape assembled from archives relatives and field recordings to House of Narkomfin, “Tima is looking for light” — mixtape, and the psychedelic duo Stray Dog create a work of reflection on the Soviet utopian project and its failure.

As a reminder, a new season of architectural walks has begun at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. These are thematic excursions to different districts of Moscow lasting from 90 to 150 minutes. We talk about it in more detail here.
