The recently re-elected president of the CEOE has just appointed the leader of the Madrid employers’ association, Miguel Garrido, first vice president of the national confederation. Thus, for the first time, he rises to a territorial organization above the rest in a carambola that internal sources consider a “change of cards” for the support that Ceim gave Garamendi in the electoral process.
At the meeting held this Wednesday, the CEOE Board of Directors, at the proposal of Garamendi, has appointed Garrido first vice president. As revealed in these pages, the highest representative of Madrid businessmen has spent months negotiating behind the scenes with the leadership of the national employers’ association to gain power in the organization. At the end of October CEOE sources already revealed that Garrido, who soon sounded like an alternative candidate to Garamendi, would have conditioned his support for the Basque businessman to rise in the employers’ ranks.
