The president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, does not believe that pressure is the best way to ensure that Ferrovial’s headquarters remain in Spain. “Honestly, I don’t think that the pressures are the most appropriate way to have previously, if the interest is of another type, you have to work on it in another way,” he pointed out in statements to the media after his speech at the presentation. of the sustainable digitization campaign at the CEOE headquarters.
In this, he stressed that it is necessary to have a deep respect for the decisions of a private company, whose change from a legal point of view is feasible and that it is also a country that is also a member of the Union European. “You have to have a real respect for what the company is proposing, it is a decision of its shareholders and there is no more to talk about,” Gramendi insisted.
Criticism of the business margin observatory
CEOE closes the door to any type of support for the observatory of business margins whose creation was announced by the economic vice president of the Government, Nadia Calviño, if what it means is “more interventionism” in companies. Garamendi has defended that companies “have to earn money” and criticizes that he found out about this initiative through the press, because the Government “in no case” has raised it.
In the same way, the head of the employers’ association has pointed out that as far as he knows no Spanish company is doing what the Government says (listing with ordinary shares in the US while maintaining its registered office in Spain) and has added that the reasons that Ferrovial has adduced “they are what they are, they are there and he has explained it clearly, not once, but several times”.
In this sense, Garamendi has also highlighted the freedom of business and that when it makes decisions it does so considering those that are most present within its interests and its shareholders for its best future development.
