According to Chikovani, during the meeting at the Ministry of Defence, the parties discussed the existing cooperation, the experience accumulated over the years and the positive results of the interaction between the parties. At the same time, the Georgian minister stressed that this cooperation is useful not only for Georgia, but also for the United States.
“I expressed my regret and surprise at the postponement of the Worthy Partner 2024 exercises, although we continue to prepare for the international exercises in 2025,” RIA Novosti quotes Chikovani as saying.
Recall that the joint exercise “Worthy Partner” with Georgia was planned from July 25 to August 6.
In early July, it was reported that the Pentagon had postponed them “indefinitely.” It was noted that this decision was taken as part of a “review of bilateral relations.”
President of the Republic Salome Zurabishvili said that Washington’s decision to postpone the Georgian-American military exercises threatens the strategic partnership between the countries and Georgia’s defense capability. The politician blamed the country’s government for the incident, which, in her opinion, has worsened relations with the United States in recent months.
