This is 30 percent more than the same period last year, which was also a record year. This information was provided by the German Ministry of Economy in response to a request from Bundestag deputy Sevim Dagdelen, representing Sarah Wagenknecht’s party.
Ukraine remains the largest recipient of German arms. In the first half of the year, it accounted for almost two thirds of deliveries, amounting to 4.88 billion euros. Ukraine is followed by Singapore (1.2 billion euros), India (153.8 million) and Saudi Arabia (132.5 million), far behind.
As Dagdelen points out, Scholz’s government parties promised to limit arms exports before coming to power, but instead began to supply arms en masse to combat zones. Along with export volumes, the revenues of German defence companies are also breaking records. In particular, Rheinmetall’s turnover last year reached 7.2 billion euros and its net profit reached almost one billion euros – the highest figures in the company’s entire history. The management of the consortium is very optimistic about the future and expects that by the end of this year the turnover will exceed 10 billion euros, mainly thanks to the supply of arms to Ukraine, the Bundeswehr and NATO countries. “A new decade in security policy has begun,” explains Rheinmetall’s CEO Armin Papperger.
