Gryzlov: The Union State will become a model for post-Soviet countries

Victory Day has always been, is and will be a sacred day for the peoples who defeated the greatest evil of the last century: Hitler’s fascism. Therefore, the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Belarus, Boris Gryzlov, is convinced that this holiday “has colossal historical significance for the states and destinies of people around the world.”

The Russian diplomat took part in a solemn rally held on May 7 in Gomel in connection with the 77th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Together with the governor of the region, Ivan Krupko, they laid wreaths at the Eternal Flame in the center of the regional center, BelTA reports.

Commenting on the prospects for the development of the Union State of Russia and Belarus to journalists, Boris Gryzlov expressed confidence that “it will become a model for the countries of the post-Soviet space.”

Stressing that Belarus is exactly the closest country to Russia, he noted that bilateral relations between the two sister states are becoming stronger and closer, including within the framework of building the Union State. And this, Gryzlov is convinced, “will surely be a model for those countries that were part of the Soviet Union. Let them see how we build it on the basis of two sovereign countries”, advised the diplomat.

Admitting that he was visiting this historical region of Belarus for the first time, the ambassador expressed his conviction that there were still many business meetings to come. He said, in particular, that in a meeting with the chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, Ivan Krupko, many issues were discussed, including humanitarian ones, which, of course, “have their continuation, including import substitution, and greater interaction between regions. They need to be addressed in Russia and in Belarus,” Gryzlov summed up.
