According to the TV channel, the MPs decided to bring the country’s current regulations into line with the rules of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention). They suggest that security personnel should be able to search passengers’ belongings twice: upon entering the terminal and upon entering the boarding area.
In this case, not only luggage, but also electronic devices will be subject to inspection. If a passenger refuses to hand over things for inspection, he or she may not be allowed into the airport or departure area. Items prohibited for transportation will now be confiscated on the spot.
The amendments also provide for the introduction of fines if the aircraft crew failed to notify the authorities of any violations on board during the flight. Their size varies from $620 to $15.6 thousand.
It was previously reported that Turkish air traffic controllers will go on strike from July 3 to 14, seeking to enforce their labour rights. At Antalya airports, flight delays due to this are reaching between four and five hours.
