Yovanovitch was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison
An unprecedented trial has taken place in Germany: 28-year-old Porsche head of legal affairs Katarina Jovanovic has been jailed for the murder of her newborn daughter. The mother threw the baby out of her apartment window onto the asphalt. Passers-by found a baby with a broken skull on the asphalt under the balcony. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to help the baby.
Yovanovitch was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being found guilty of murder. The woman’s lawyers chose a very strange line of defence: they argued that the Porsche employee only recently knew she was pregnant, and that she was not even aware of her pregnancy. (The child killer gave birth alone; this happened last September in Lauffen am Neckar.) After picking up the newborn, the mother was allegedly so shocked that she dropped her out of the window.
According to investigators, Yovanovitch was well aware that she was expecting a child; the woman searched a lot of information on the subject on the Internet. The prosecution argued that the lawyer was afraid that the child would interfere with her career. And in general, motherhood did not fit into her life plans.
The court, however, heeded the arguments of the defence and ruled that the murder was manslaughter. But this sentence seemed too harsh to Katarina Jovanovic’s defence team; they intend to appeal the verdict.
Several questions remain in this terrible case. The first is why Yovanovitch “did not know she was pregnant”? It is not known how she explained it in court, but the photographs show that the lawyer is very plump. However, it seems unlikely that a 28-year-old European woman would not be able to understand what is happening to her.
Second point: why didn’t the Porsche employee call an ambulance when she went into labor?
Finally, did the lady really not understand what awaited her after the “public” murder of the baby? And if she was mentally unstable, how did she get to such a high position at Porsche?
