Unemployed people can opt for one of the various social benefits managed by the Public State Employment Service (SEPE). Despite the fact that one of the most popular is unemployment, there are other aids that it is possible to take advantage of when you lose your job and have not paid enough time to Social Security, that is, one year -360 days-. This is the case of the subsidy for insufficient contribution of 480 euros per month, but only those who meet a series of requirements may request it.
The public organization under the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, led by Yolanda Díaz, determines that the period during which this mini-subsidy can be collected depends on the time that contributions have been made and the beneficiary’s family responsibilities. In addition, it must be taken into account that your payment is made between the 10th and 15th of each month, and is paid by bank transfer to the account owned by the applicant.
Since January 1, 2023, the amount registers an increase: it went from 463.21 euros per month in 2022, to the current 480 euros. This is due to the fact that the Government of Spain established in the General State Budget (PGE) an increase in the Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM), which this year has reached 600 euros. This represents 80% of the subsidy for insufficient contributions.
Requirements to receive the subsidy for insufficient contribution
To be among the beneficiaries of the subsidy for insufficient contribution, it is necessary, as its name indicates, to have contributed less than 360 days and, therefore, not have the right to collect unemployment. But there are other requirements that are indicated on the SEPE website:
Being unemployed and in a legal situation of unemployment. Being registered as a jobseeker and maintaining that registration throughout the time the aid is received. Accepting the activity commitment. Family sponsorships, or six months if you do not have them, and not reaching 360 days. .
For how long can the benefit be collected?
As previously indicated, the duration of the subsidy is determined by the time that contributions have been made and by the applicant’s family responsibilities. For example, in the case of discontinuous permanent workers, the aid will be available for the same number of months that they have contributed for unemployment in the year prior to the application.
If the beneficiary has family responsibilities and has contributed for three, four or five months, it is possible that they will enjoy the aid for three, four or five months, respectively. For its part, the right to the benefit is recognized for 21 months, that is, for six months, with the possibility of extending it for another six months, until its end, for those who have contributed for six or more months. On the other hand, if you do not have family responsibilities, you can only obtain six months, if you have contributed six or more months.
Another of the fundamental issues is that the right to request the subsidy is born the day after the legal situation of unemployment, provided that the requirements are met. Thus, there will be a period of 15 business days, which will start counting the day after losing the job. To do this, all you have to do is submit the official application form through the SEPE Electronic Office, at the benefits office, at any public registry office or by administrative mail.
