The digital certificate is the electronic certification that connects a person with signature confirmation data and verifies their identity, which means that it can be used to carry out procedures safely with the Public Administration and Private Entities over the Internet.
It can be used to present and settle taxes, to consult traffic fines, to make registrations and queries in the municipal registry, to consult and process the application for subsidies, to present resources and claims or to electronically sign official documents and forms, among others.
How to obtain the digital citizen certificate
There are four different ways to obtain a digital certificate, starting with doing so with the electronic DNI itself, since these incorporate electronic certificates issued by the National Police Corps, which can be used to carry out any procedure that requires this type of electronic identification.
Through the electronic DNI page of the National Police you can verify that it works correctly. Through the National Currency and Stamp Factory (FNMT) you can obtain the certificate for natural persons or representatives for sole and joint administrators, by going to its web portal and following the steps indicated to request obtaining the certificate with DNIe. . .
Another possibility is to obtain the FNMT electronic certificate through in-person accreditation, for which you must go to an Identity Accreditation Office, presenting the corresponding documentation. In the offices of the AEAT, Social Security and others it is necessary to request an appointment. Once this procedure has been completed, you can download the file to your computer by making the request through the FNMT electronic headquarters.
It is also possible to obtain a certificate from the National Mint and Stamp Factory with video identification, for which you must go to its electronic headquarters and follow the instructions that appear on the screen, which, as in the previous cases, means having to make a configuration. prior and make the request before proving the identity, which in this case will consist of a video identification service, which requires scanning a QR code with the mobile phone. At that moment you will have to show the identity document on both sides to the mobile camera and then a biometric recognition will be done using a selfie video.
Finally, there is the possibility of obtaining the digital certificate with a mobile device, for which you must download the “FNMT Digital Certificate” application available for Android and iOS, where after requesting the certificate, you will have to prove your identity, to which offers the three options already mentioned (video identification, with a valid electronic ID or in-person accreditation), in order to proceed to download it.
In this way, the four ways to obtain the digital certificate have a similar operation, since it consists of a first prior configuration from the electronic headquarters in which the necessary software must be installed on the computer to generate the keys, and then carry out the request the certificate and then prove the identity, where one or another steps will have to be followed depending on the option chosen.
Once accredited, you will only have to return to the electronic headquarters of the National Mint and Stamp Factory from the same computer (or through the application) and with the same user who made the request to proceed to download the certificate and thus be able to begin . to use it to identify yourself before different organizations and entities.
