Swiss watchmaker Hublot has appointed American artist and sculptor Daniel Arsham as its ambassador.
“Most of my work is about exploring our perception of time, how we measure it, how we process it, how we find ourselves in it,” the American artist told WWD.
The artist joins a list of Hublot ambassadors that includes Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, Italian blogger Chiara Ferragni, designer Samuel Ross, footballer Kylian Mbappé and Michelin-starred chefs Anne-Sophie Pic and Yannick Alleno.
Hublot and Arsham’s first collaboration can’t be bought. The artist has created a sundial 20 meters in diameter, carved into the snowy landscape of the Zermatt ski resort in Switzerland. The art object is completely made of ice.
As Arsham envisioned, his ice sculpture contradicts the idea of a clock, which people used to think of as something permanent: “This is an extremely large version of an ancient timekeeping device, and its markings are largely temporary, as They change depending on the lighting conditions.
Earlier, Daniel Arsham presented a collaboration with Xiaomi – he developed the design of the phone. The novelty resembles the artist’s bronze sculptures. He worked not only on the body of the model, but also on the interface and packaging.
