According to him, the main objective now is to stop killing people. “And that means a ceasefire agreement, and nothing more,” the Hungarian minister was quoted as saying by TASS.
Szijjarto noted that the sanctions against Russia were completely ineffective. “We have already introduced 10 sanctions packages, did this bring us closer to resolving the conflict? No. Did it bring Russia to its knees? No,” he said, adding that Europe only made matters worse by introducing restrictive measures.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry also stressed that Budapest does not want to support Kiev with weapons, as many other Western countries have done. “We are a neighboring country to Ukraine and we don’t want more people to die,” he said.
Szijjártó said earlier that most states do not share Europe’s “war psychosis”. According to him, an important part of the countries wants peace and a quick cessation of hostilities.
