– What are you doing there? Are they all alive?! – this is how my morning began in Alanya, where I found myself in the midst of the most powerful earthquake in Turkey. And we have something to do..?

Calls, messages, news. I did not even immediately remember that I woke up at night from tremors, the bed was shaking, shaking, and I calmed down, shaking again. Louder than usual, she woke up and checked her phone just in case: there was no message about the earthquake, which means everything is in order.

And only at 8 o’clock in the morning, when frightened relatives from Russia burst in with telephone trills and Telegram sprayed a vat of terrible shots, he realized it. How lucky we are, is the first thought. And the second, from which the hairs on his head ruffled: THAT people were also sleeping when their houses turned into a pile of rubble in seconds…

The epicenter of the emergency fell in the south of the country, where around four in the morning a powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude points was registered, which swept the surrounding regions in a series of destructive aftershocks. Kahramanmarash, Osmaniye, Malatya, Hatay provinces, Gaziantep cities, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir suffered the most. This is a native, non-touristy Turkey, which is practically unknown to Russians. But Mersin and Adana, where several buildings were left in ruins, are heavily populated by Russians.

– Mersin. I woke up at 4:20 with the feeling that someone was trying to push me. Then suddenly she trembled terribly, flowers fell from the shelves, the closet doors flew open. She grabbed the child, his passport and ran out into the street, they write in Mersin’s Russian-language chats. – On the street, the neighbors got into the cars and went to deserted areas. Downpour, cold, darkness, panic. We wait in the courtyard in an open area. Thank God everything went well. We went home at 6 am.

– My husband and I drove in bed to the window through half a room, immediately jumped down, picked up a backpack: money, a laptop, documents and quickly left. Our house survived, but a high-rise building collapsed at the end of the street, they later found out from the howling of sirens, Adana residents share, posting shocking footage of a chandelier spinning at breakneck speed under the roof.

News from the most “Russian” regions – the cities of Antalya and Alanya on the Mediterranean coast, where tens of thousands of our compatriots, in comparison with this horror, are quite peaceful. Someone slept peacefully all night without noticing the shocks, while others escaped with a slight fright.

– I have the 11th floor, while I understood what was happening, everything was over. But then a tsunami was announced, and it was much worse … she Mentally said goodbye to life. Thank God, after 10 minutes, the warning was canceled, describes a resident of Antalya. – The dog seemed to be shaking and howling.

By the way, according to the locals, many did not receive any notifications on the phone. Only one person shared in the SMS chat from the Adana authorities with recommendations on safety regulations: do not stay near buildings, do not try to clear rubble on your own, find a safe place and do not make phone calls, except urgent ones. In the affected areas of Turkey, classes in schools and kindergartens were canceled today, and part of the flights were postponed. And if the messages on social media are to be believed, there are still small shocks.
