Illusion to show restored Soviet stereo cinema in 3D glasses

Date: February 27, 2024 Time: 05:13:51

On May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Ilusión, the next meeting of the Restoration cycle will take place, during which films restored by the Russian State Film Fund or with its direct participation will be screened. The focus of the April event will be the phenomenon of stereo cinema, a cinematic system that mimics the presence of a third dimension or gives the viewer the illusion of the depth of space.

The evening’s film will be Sergei Mikaelyan’s “Colorful Pebbles”, based on the story of the same name by Sergei Antonov. The tape touches on the problems of relations between people of different generations. The picture was released on the screen only in a stereoscopic version, therefore its demonstration was possible only in specially equipped cinemas.

The restoration was made from the original Agfacolor color negative from the collection of the Russian State Film Fund in 2013, thanks to which the modern viewer has the opportunity to get acquainted with a rare film in the format in which it was originally conceived. The film will be presented and told about the history of stereo cinema and the details of its restoration, the film critic Nikolai Anatolyevich Mayorov, a specialist in restoration of digital films.
