The accident occurred on March 1 in an apartment rented by a mother of many children in Achinsk. According to investigators, the woman was at home with two daughters, ages five and 11, and two sons, ages one and four. While the mother was studying with other children, the older boy knocked over the kettle and a cup of boiling water.
The boy received burns on 70 percent of his body: face, neck, chest, lower back and legs, but the mother decided to self-medicate. She did not seek medical attention for five days, limiting herself to the use of popular ointments and pain relievers. On March 5, the boy died. The woman wrapped him in a blanket and took him to his mother’s house. Arriving there on a call, the ambulance doctors determined the death of the child.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the woman did not communicate with health workers for fear that they would notice a disorder in the apartment, report the fact to law enforcement and take the children, the control authority said.
It is known that the family was not on a preventative list and there was no information about signs of trouble. However, after the incident, the control recorded unsanitary conditions in the apartment, the lack of fresh food. Now the eldest daughter is admitted to a social institution, two more children live with her father. The guardianship authorities of the city filed a lawsuit to deprive the mother of parental rights.
