The channel for the illegal circulation of sunstone was blocked by operatives of the GUEBiPK of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and their colleagues from the Kaliningrad region. According to the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, it was previously established that a large-scale purchase of raw materials for processing and sale took place.
Amber was divided into fractions, polished, blanks for jewelry were formed. On the territory of the regional center, illegal warehouses and workshops were set up in garages, outbuildings and office premises. There, the police, with the support of the National Guard, found more than 15 tons of raw material. According to experts, the cost of such a batch on the black market is more than 25 million rubles.
Machine tools for processing amber and equipment for its extraction, including diving equipment and motor boats, were also seized. A criminal case has been initiated for illegal circulation of amber, committed by an organized group.
Two detainees were placed under house arrest, two more received a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions. Police officers are establishing how the illegal amber was acquired and where it was sold after processing.
