In Kurgan, the level of the Tobol River rose overnight to almost five meters – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 14, 2024 Time: 14:52:18

In the regional center, the water rose 54 centimeters overnight and has already reached almost five meters. At six meters, flooding begins on the right bank of Tobol and in the lower part of the left bank, reports the regional government. The authorities ask residents to urgently evacuate the possible flooding area. Many did it beforehand.

Pensioner Galina Vasilievna Lazareva has already been in a temporary accommodation center located at the base of gymnasium number 31 for three days. She lives in the Topol microdistrict. Remember how big the flood was in 1994. That’s why when the evacuation was announced, I didn’t think twice and went to the temporary detention center. I am very pleased with how she was received there.

“I didn’t even expect it to be so good here,” says Galina Vasilievna. “It’s like she’s in a dispensary.”

According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 6,600 people were evacuated. Currently, there are 769 citizens in temporary accommodation centers, including 204 children. Specialists of the Ural regional search and rescue team of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations monitor the situation on the Tobol River in the area of the water supply station in Kurgan to identify ice jams accumulating upstream and can increase the width of the spill or create the effect of a trailing wave. The Piranha 6 airboat allows rescuers to maneuver through such areas and quickly clear congestion.
