They were found guilty of committing an offense under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “Negligence”.
A student in January 2020 was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend, whom she went to pick up things after they broke up. Neighbors heard her cries for help and called the police several times, but no one responded to the call. Then the neighbors of the house opened the door of the apartment on their own and verified that Vera had been murdered.
“The court found that the defendants, who were on duty in the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kemerovo and in the Leninsky police department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kemerovo, received various messages from residents of the hostel on Leningradsky Prospekt”, reports the Kemerovo region prosecutor’s office.
However, despite the availability of information about the crime that was being committed, the defendants remained inactive for a long time. The policemen, without listening to the audio recordings of the signals, without learning from the applicants all the circumstances of the conflict situation, did not bring reliable information to the operational units: traffic police, police and National Guard.
Due to the negligence of the officers on duty, the criminal acts against the 23-year-old student were not immediately stopped and she died.
The police officers pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The Zavodsky District Court sentenced them to prison terms of one and a half to two suspended years, and also deprived them of the right to hold certain positions. In addition, compensation was collected from the perpetrators in favor of the parents of the deceased, in the amount of 1 million rubles each.
Earlier, the court sentenced the student’s killer to 17 years in a strict colony.
