Almost a week has passed since the moment when US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who arrived in Kiev and was included in Russia’s list of extremists and terrorists, expressed the idea of providing assistance from Washington to Kiev on credit, and in Ukraine I still can’t get over the shock.

Several high-ranking Ukrainian politicians and officials have already expressed their outrage over this matter. President Zelensky, however, remained silent, because he does not care about the conditions under which the money and weapons are given, the main thing is that they give it, and he is not the one who will give it anyway. But everyone else didn’t hide their disappointment from him. But the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Independence, Dmitro Kuleba, for reasons of decency, limited himself to pointing out that Ukraine has not yet “seen any details of this proposal, except for a broad mention of loans instead of grants.” And he immediately stressed that these messages did not impact him.
But his predecessor in this position, Pavlo Klimkin, did not hold back.
– I think that demanding that Ukraine fight for some kind of loan is a mistake. Dishonest story. If politically they need to prove that we’re getting some of it on credit, and this will unlock aid quickly enough, well, maybe that’s the price to pay. But I still think it’s wrong,” Klimkin almost shouted. “What we are doing is not only a matter of shared values, but also a matter of fundamental American interests.” And if Russia gets stronger, this is a fundamental problem for the United States, even through the prism of China, which uses Russia and at least supports it economically on a consistent basis. Therefore, this story has certain risks for the Americans, and forcing Ukraine to receive all aid in the form of some kind of loan I do not think is a correct and honest story.
However, Klimkin immediately tried to dodge it and proposed the most reasonable way out, in his opinion: he could, they say, use a trick and deceive American society by making the subsidy partial. Given that Americans “need to demonstrate politically that we received some of it on credit, and this will unlock the aid quickly enough, perhaps this price really needs to be paid.”
However, to say that Kuleba has resigned would be a mistake. During a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Blinken, he “sternly warned Washington about the consequences of not providing assistance to Ukraine.”
