Video of the action shows police detaining two activists wearing T-shirts reading “Who’s to blame?” The group said in a statement that France has not met its commitment to combat climate change. There was no reaction from Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne’s office.
France’s supreme administrative court last year ordered the state to pay two fines of 10 million euros for failing to improve air quality in major cities. They were imposed in addition to another fine of 10 million euros for the same reason in 2021. In 2017, the same court ordered the government to reduce the levels of nitrogen dioxide and fine particles in more than ten zones to meet European standards.
