The mayor of the city, Inna Kolykhmatova, wrote about this on her social network page. She noted that Anna Nikolaevna organized the festive swim together with her family, friends, former colleagues and fellow winter swimmers.
When Anna Nikolaevna was 90 years old, she took part in the World Winter Swimming Championships in Tyumen. There she became the owner of a gold medal and the title of “Mrs. Walrus”. By the way, Russia won 293 medals, Finland came in second with 56 medals, and Estonia came in third with 42.
Anna Nikolaevna started swimming when she retired completely. As she told the RG correspondent, she was sure that she would be able to immediately plunge into the icy water. She entered Lake Onega without fear. And she even swam 12 meters at a time – the length of the track. And so she remained in the Victoria Winter Swimming Club. She celebrated her 99th birthday with the club by swimming.
