According to the mayor of the city of Pirot, Vladan Vasich, “51 cases of poisoning” were recorded as a result of an ammonia leak. He specified that seven victims were transferred to a hospital in the city of Nis.
The Serbian Ministry of Interior noted that as a result of an emergency on the railway, there was a “leakage (of ammonia) and the release of a large amount of gas into the atmosphere.” Authorities urged local residents not to leave their homes, according to RIA Novosti.
