Local residents posted photos of the Nikitsky Monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky on social media. Judging by the photos, the Church of the Annunciation of the Nikitsky Monastery, built in the 17th century, was damaged by the elements.
The head of the Pereslavl-Zalessky district, Dmitry Zyablitsky, confirmed the information about the collapse of the dome. According to him, this happened on the evening of July 4 during a hurricane. No one was injured when the dome fell. The authorities promise that the temple will be restored.
The church, whose dome collapsed, is under the jurisdiction of the Pereslavl diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. It was said that not only the Church of the Annunciation suffered from the hurricane.
– On the evening of July 3, a tornado hit the monastery grounds, causing its destruction. One of the domes of the Church of the Annunciation fell, a window of the main church of the Archangel Gabriel was broken, the roof of the western wall of the monastery was torn off, and the greenhouses were destroyed, the diocesan press service reported.
The aftermath of the hurricane is now being cleaned up on the territory of the Nikitsky Monastery.
