The heads of local administrations and the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations published messages about the evacuation. Authorities reminded residents of what to take with them from home, after receiving information about the need to move to temporary accommodation centers.
The plant clarified the cause of the emergency in one of the cities:
– As a result of heavy rains and low capacity of garbage-filled drainage pipes in the city of Baikalsk, there was a sharp rise in the water level in the Kharlakhta river … 14 family plots, six houses, were flooded.
Early in the morning, the head of the Baikal municipality, Vasily Temgenevsky, announced the introduction of an emergency regime in the city due to the complication of the hydrological situation. The current swept away part of the road, police said, blocking traffic across the Harlakhta river.
Meanwhile, a preliminary evacuation has been announced in several districts of the Angarsk Okrug due to the overflow of the Kitoy river bed, where the water level exceeded the critical level the night before.
A tense situation has developed in a number of other territories of the Irkutsk region. A day earlier, the governor announced the introduction of a maximum alert regime.
