“Dear son! Your service is not easy, but it is very important for the whole country… I wish you to overcome all difficulties. God bless you! I love you, I miss you,” writes Olga, the young man’s mother. defender of the homeland “Nobody thought that life would be like this. During the months of separation, the children grew: the daughter conquers the heights of the dance, the son walks confidently, begins to talk… We are with you with all our hearts. You are our happiness, the sun. Take care, my dear!” – Lyubov, the wrestler’s wife, confesses. Brief epistolary sketches, full of grief and hope, became an addition to the portraits. It turned out something like an open fold: on the one hand, mom or wife in a tunic thrown over her shoulder, not touched by a bullet or centimeter by centimeter restored after the battle, on the other, encouraging lines from them, it seems personal , but so necessary for everyone.
As the curator of the project Marina Tsurcanu, head of the Tyumen branch of the Union of Officers’ Wives in the Ural Federal District, said, the idea, picked up by the Siberians, was supplemented with new meanings in the process of implementation. First of all, photography was preceded by a beauty action: hairdressers, make-up artists, stylists conjured up women, turning tired hostesses into girls and ladies on the cover. Not for a ruble, but for an idea! Let them see for themselves that they are beautiful, wise, patient, strong. Secondly, thanks to the project, friendly ties were born: it is better to wait together for loved ones from the front than alone, it is easier to experience the bitterness of loss on the shoulder of an understanding girlfriend. So many events happened during this time: Galina Nikolaevna buried her son, Irina became a mother in anticipation of her husband, Marina wrote the song “Letter of a Dead Soldier” …
By the way, the fighters themselves were often the first to contact the organizers – they asked to find and persuade relatives to shoot in order to receive a letter with miniature portraits on the front line. Nikolai Savchenko, the special public representative of the governor for NVO issues, at the opening of the exhibition in the theater, also fulfilled the requests of defenders: he caught emotions and colors in the frame. Our boys, men, fathers and grandfathers really need them.
368 residents of the Tyumen region took part in the project “Wives of heroes. Mothers of heroes. Sons of heroes.” The photography lasted five months. In the fall, a new season “Heroes of the Home Front” dedicated to volunteers and volunteers begins in Tyumen. The images will be shown to the public next year.
